Sandy Jones 14m

A Serious Cruiser with Adventure Built In. Here's a yacht that's ready to spark some serious cruising dreams.

This 1995 Sandy Jones 14m is a genuine blue-water passage-maker with the pedigree, space and equipment to take you well beyond the usual cruising grounds. At around 14 metres, she offers the kind of comfortable cruising platform you'd expect from a yacht of this size, but with one very clever trick, a lifting keel that reduces the draft to just 0.9 metres with the board up.

That opens up a whole different style of cruising. Tuck into shallow bays, explore places other 14m can't reach, and get closer to the coastline without sacrificing offshore capability.

Twin rudders give her responsive handling, while twin 27HP Yanmar diesels provide dependable auxiliary power when the wind disappears or manoeuvring gets tight. The sailing setup includes an alloy mast, stainless standing rigging, furling headsails and storm jib, with plenty of winch capacity and an electric halyard winch that also operates the lifting keel.

She's equally well set up for life away from the dock. The cruising inventory includes a watermaker, solar panels, twin wind generators, a petrol genset, shore power, a diesel heater, refrigeration, a four-burner oven and a grill. In other words, much of the gear you need for extended cruising is already here.

Down below, there's room for family and friends, two generous singles and large double forward, the saloon table drops down to a second double. The electronics package includes dual VHF, GPS/chart plotter, depth sounder, auto pilot and AIS.

This is not a freshly polished marina queen, and she will benefit from some TLC. But that is also where the opportunity lies. Beneath the work is a substantial, well-equipped cruising yacht with genuine offshore credentials and a design that offers something increasingly hard to find, the ability to go big offshore while still getting into the shallow, out-of-the-way places.

For the adventurous sailor looking for a capable 14m with plenty of cruising equipment already onboard, this Sandy Jones 14m deserves a closer look.

A serious boat, with serious cruising potential, and plenty of adventures still ahead.
